MSgt Wayne Gatewood, USMC Ret., President, Quality Support Inc.
After graduating from Benjamin Franklin High School, Rochester, NY at the age of 17, Wayne M. Gatewood, Jr., joined the Marine Corps in June 1966. Wayne served in the Republic of Vietnam during June 1968 through July 1969, with Sub-Unit One, 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO). During active duty, Wayne earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Management from Wayland Baptist University, and a Master’s of Science Degree in International Relations from Troy State University. After serving 21 years of honorable and active U.S. Marine Corps service, Wayne retired from the Corps in July 1987, at the rank of Master Sergeant.
After leaving the Marines, Mr. Gatewood served as a Project and Program Manager in support of a variety of federal government and commercial clients, and during December 1989, established Quality Support, Inc., a technical, management, and administrative support services firm that shall soon celebrate 25 successful years in business. Present and past clients include the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Departments of Commerce, VA, DHHS, HUD, and the Department of State; the FBI, NASA, DIA, United States Coast Guard, NEH, NEA, UNISYS, Humanitas Inc., and other federal government and commercial clients. On June 12, 2008, at a public ceremony, Quality Support, Inc. became the founding member of the VA, CVE Verification initiative, having received its Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business Verification Letter from then Deputy VA Secretary, Gordon H. Mansfield. Today, Quality Support remains a VA/CVE-Verified SDVOSB in good standing.
Quality Support’s Corporate Office is located in Landover, Maryland, and the Company has maintained facilities in Oakland, CA. and in London, England in behalf of the U. S. Department of State. Also, Quality Support has supported overseas operations in Jordon, Libya, Egypt, the United Kingdom, and in year 2000, supported both the Bosnia and Kosovo Free Elections.
Mr. Gatewood and Quality Support have been recipients of numerous awards, to include a White House Champions for Change Award for Veterans Advocacy; a U.S. Department of Defense Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business Award; U.S. Veterans Administration, Center for Veterans Enterprise Volunteer of the Year Award; U.S. Chamber of Commerce Blue Ribbon Small Business Award; SBA Washington Area District Director’s Award; SBA Washington District Office 8(a) Graduate of the Year Award; SBA Washington District Office Veterans Small Business Advocate of the Year Award; American Express OPEN Small Business Award; U.S. Department of State Small Business Excellence Award; African-American Patriots Jeffries Carey National Achievement Award; and the NAACP Washington, DC Chapter Leadership Award. Additionally, Wayne has been featured in a number of internet, newspaper and magazine articles, and Quality Support has been the recipient of many letters of commendation for superior performance. Wayne has also been featured in an American Express OPEN radio commercial, and Quality Support recently had the pleasure of participating in the filming of an American Express OPEN video commercial now on YouTUBE.
Mr. Gatewood has been called upon to present expert small business testimony to Congress, sits on a number of small business and advocacy councils, and serves as a small business advocate while participating in a variety of small business forums. On a volunteer basis, Wayne provides motivational and entrepreneurial seminars and small business briefings to both government and commercial audiences and to Military TAP audiences. Wayne also provides active duty service members and fellow Veterans with cost-free pre-separation/retirement counseling; resume assistance, mentorship, and networking support.
