Code of Support and Pearmund Cellars have teamed up to share the love this Valentine’s Day with veterans and caregivers. It’s simple: Purchase a Sweetheart Box for that special person in your life or you can opt to “Share The Love” and gift your box to an anonymous military caregiver! Every Sweetheart Box purchased provides hours of one-on-one Case Coordination services and ensures our national network of verified resources, PATRIOTlink, remains free-of-charge.

Together, we can share the love with the heroes behind the frontlines, who may not always get the recognition they deserve. If you choose to “Share The Love”, your gift will be sent to a deserving caregiver like Diana, Kate and Renae. Read their stories:

A Sweetheart Box includes: one “Code of Support” bottle of Black Ops wine, a box of Black Ops wine-filled chocolates, and two limited-edition Code of Support etched wine glasses. A non-alcoholic version is also available.

Diana is a caregiver to her husband, Phil, who is a patient at Walter Reed Military Hospital. After sustaining a battlefield injury in Afghanistan, Phil suffered numerous infections, which led to a leg amputation four years ago. He has had 34 surgeries since then, and he wears a mobility brace on his existing knee. Diana inquired about grants to adapt their home, to make it safer for Phil, and to reduce his dependence on Diana. With support from COSF, a HISA grant was approved for Caregiver Support Services. Phil is now more self-sufficient, and Diana is able to take respite when needed.

Kate is a caregiver to a post-9/11 Army Veteran. When she came to the Code of Support, she had just been removed from the caregiver program through the Department of Veterans Affairs, and her family was struggling financially. Kate was not only receiving the support she needed as a military caregiver, but her young daughter was ill as well. Our Case Manager worked with Kate and the family to provide caregiver support services, peer support, education, retreats, and information regarding remote jobs. She also helped address their financial needs through budget counseling and assistance with their utilities and car payment. Code of Support also helped the family secure a new laptop for their oldest daughter for school. Our team had success enrolling her husband in the Wounded Warrior Project’s IP program and providing several recreational opportunities for the entire family.

“I’ve said it before, but it cannot be said enough: I would not still be standing if it wasn’t for you, I would not have had as much time with my veteran if it wasn’t for you. WE are forever grateful to YOU & the COSF team.”

— Renae, Veteran Caregiver & Mother

Renae is Steven’s caregiver, a post 9/11 combat veteran who was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (terminal brain cancer). Renae was struggling to get the care that Steven needed when Renae’s mother reached out to COSF asking for help. Our Case Manager stepped up and started providing resources while working with the VA on benefits. Our Case Manager was able to get around the clock care for Steven, connect Renae to the support programs, and their four-year-old son Michael was able to get the support he needed. We worked with Steven, Renae, and Michael through the most difficult moments. We are sad to say that Steven lost his battle with cancer; however, we are still connected to Renae and Michael, and we will continue to be here for them.
