Sometimes, navigating the system simply isn’t an option for veterans in urgent need. The mother of a Marine veteran reached out to us in a desperate search for help as her son was caught deep in drug addiction. She felt overwhelmed, and the situation quickly spiraled out of her control.

A Code of Support Case Manager boldly advocated for immediate care because of the severity of the veteran’s addiction. The Case Manager knew that a long-term care facility would allow for treatment modalities, extension of the veteran’s stay if needed, and follow-up care. However, local facilities that offered this had waitlists of over two weeks, and the Case Manager knew the situation was dire, and required attention much sooner.

Our Case manager searched relentlessly and found treatment at a private facility that could accommodate the veteran immediately, and worked with a community partner to secure the $7,000 to cover his stay. She remained in contact with the family throughout the veteran’s treatment and after his first week, he began to feel hope for his life and future. We leverage resources to bring veterans light amid their struggles and to change and save their lives.
